Rezzable’s Big Gamble

No I wasn’t eating your food kittie, I was getting it for you! Here! Mmmmm, sugar! If I have to jumpstart this thing one more time I swear…

Preview of the upcoming Dukes of Hazzard remake End of a long day…

Note: this post will contain a grand total of 14 images, several of which (see just above this note) are in 1600×1200 format. There just wasn’t any way to do justice to this incredible build.

Not sponsored by Coke… despite it being my fave softdrink.

Today VeeJay Burns tipped me off (via Twitter) to this place. (SLurl) It’s called Greenie’s Home Rezzable. I have to admit, I thought I had the wrong place at first. It was a crappy looking uneven tunnel that let out to a crappy looking house… but as it turns out, the tunnel was a mousehole and the house was a dollhouse. I found myself in a gigantic room filled with small green aliens and the most detailed work I’ve ever seen in Second Life.

After a few minutes I came across a very put-out Pavig Lok. Apparently Tenshi Vielle wrote the place up in the Herald and did NOT give credit where credit was due. Instead of interviewing the builders, she wrote an edgy little “is Starax back?” piece. Now, I get that… it sells. You namedrop an infamous builder (who, by all accounts, left SL ages ago) and people will get excited. Unfortunately…

(Read more after the jump)

Pavig Lok and Onder Skall

… neither Pavig Lok and LittleToe Bartlett get their due credit that way. While everybody is busy saying “gee wasn’t Starax great”, nobody is saying “holy cow Pavig Lok and LittleToe Bartlett are GENIUSES!”

Primitive Earth technology

The real story on the sim is that it’s a Rezzable gig. Now, let’s discuss Rezzable for a minute because they’re doing something unbelievably balsy.

Mmmmm, beer!

They may be another content creation company, like MOU or ESC, but we’re really not sure what they are. I’ve narrowed them down to two individuals inworld: Vega03 Straylight (probably an alt, established 04/2007) and RightAsRain Rimbaud, but that’s only a guess. Website’s blank, no inworld locations, and all groups are invite-only.

gPod

In fact the only thing we know for sure is that the Rezzable group has purchased a number of sims, found creatives, and told them to just have at ‘er.

I’m ready for my closeup!

They bought the Greenies from Light Waves, which is an alt for… I don’t know who…

Kitchen

… so now we don’t know who spent the thousands for the place to be built or why they did it. They’re certainly not advertising themselves.

Help! Toast!

So meanwhile, I’ve been coming back to the sim over and over in an attempt to catch somebody online who can tell me what’s going on. Instead I’ve been seeing some odd role-playing involving children, spiders, big piles of poo, fly-people, Ghostbusters, and giant boots you can drive around the sim.

Free! Fly free my little bird!

Weird, weird scene all around. I’ll let you know if I ever get answers on this, but check it out in the meantime.

UPDATE: Just before I hit the Publish button, I ran into LittleToe. I found out that LOTS more is being added to the sim, and something else too… actually a bunch of something elses that I’ve been asked to keep confidential for now. Strictly speaking I know nothing yet, but investigations continue.

I think somebody knows how much I love a mystery.

UPDATE October 28, 2007 - There’s so much more I could say about this. Starax is Light Waves. Jon Himoff doesn’t like too many questions. Volumes and volumes more that I won’t make public. Bottom line though - I’m done done done with Rezzable. Feels good to be at the finish line. Movin’ on. :)

This looks like amazing stuff. So amazing to see something well done in SL.

I figured this was just ESC retooling or people from ESC or something spinning off — or some known quantities. SL is just a small pond still, and it doesn’t even have to be Starax, doesn’t seem like him. Seems like people who know how to bake stuff, and there aren’t that many. Looks like Toast or Barnes stuff, but those names don’t sound like them.

You know what is really frigging wierd? When I wrote that review about the Bluebird cafe, I had this strange vision, I thought to myself, given how tacky this build looks taken right smack out of RL, what if they did something different? What if they enlarged the entire thing, and made giant chairs, and giant walls with pictures and microphones, like the whole sim was just that bar, but inside? Giant? But I didn’t write it because that would just be too wierd. Because then how does your avatar relate?

And the answer is…found by these artists, who figured out that the viewer needs a narrative like “follow the trail of the Greenies”.
