Show Off Your Awesomeness

Lordfly Digeridoo Wants You!

Or rather… he wants your picture. He’s compiling 1000 avatar pictures, and is going to create a bunch of fun ways to display them.

I want to see (and show) how diverse your normal Joe Q. Avatar really is in Second Life. Sure, we all stereotype and say “oh well everyone looks like caricatures of Barbie and Ken, or cybergoths, or whatever”, but there really is substantial differences between all million + of us. But there’s no real proof of that.

Tha rulez:

  1. Straight on mugshot. Cropped as close to the head as possible, without looking like a Wayne’s World “EXTREEEEME CLOOOSSSEEEE UP!!!!” Look at the image below for a guide. It doesn’t matter the avatar position, but the avatar MUST be looking at the camera.
  2. Crank the graphics up as much as possible before sending off your screenie. That would mean, best case scenario, the Windlight client, set to high noon, max avatar detail, max everything, really. If your framerate sucks at that rate, cut out the rendering of trees, then particles, then clouds. Don’t cut down avatar geometry, or flexy geometry, because most attachments are made of as such.
  3. Before taking your picture, make sure the avatar is fully loaded and baked. This can take up to a minute per avatar, so be patient.
  4. High noon is a must. Ctrl-Shift-Y. night shots, evening shots, sunset shots, etc. won’t be accepted. Sorry. The focus is on the avatar, given a rough approximation of ideal conditions.
  5. Resolution MUST be at LEAST 1024 by 768. This is to ensure maximum photo quality. More is always better.
  6. Have fun. :)

In conversation with Lordfly the other day he said that you can take other people’s pictures and submit them on their behalf as well… so if you run across a really cool looking av, go for it! All entries go to 1000avatars [at] gmail [dot] com.

This was all inspired by the YouTube video “Noah takes a photo of himself every day for 6 years”, which I’m sure you’ve seen, but just in case:

Hypnotic!
