Want Work In Gaming?

Games For ChangeJob Announcement

Project Manager

Games for Change, a national umbrella group dedicated to advancing positive social change through digital games, is seeking a Project Manager for its Prototyping, Evaluation, Teaching and Learning lab (PETLab) ¬ – a joint initiative with Parsons The New School for Design. This new position is part-time (60% FTE), with potential to grow to full-time, in a high-profile, cutting-edge New York City-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting the new field of videogames for social change.

PETLab’s mission is to develop new games, simulations, and play experiences which encourage experimental learning and investigation into social and global issues. It is a place for testing prototyping methods and the process of collaborative design with organizations interested in using games as a form of public interest engagement. By prototyping ideas and issues with a wide range of collaborators, PETLab will develop games and playful systems that encourage creative approaches to, and deeper, dynamic understandings of, the complex issues society faces today, such as climate change, wealth and resource distribution, and human rights.

PETLab is currently developing projects with Microsoft’s XNA, mTV’s Think portal, the Boys and Girls Club and the New York Public Library, and is funded by a generous grant from the MacArthur Foundation. The Project Manager will deal with the day-to-day oversight of projects throughout the year. S/he will coordinate with all the various participants: Parsons research fellows, New School faculty, students, and external partners. The Project Manager will also take a lead in developing new digital game-based projects and partnerships.

Responsibilities include project reporting and documentation, budget oversight, supervising project staff and volunteers, and new project development.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the following areas:
• designing digital media prototypes and materials, particularly games;
• fostering collaboration among diverse participants from backgrounds such as academic, non-profit, and media sectors;
• managing project logistics including budget, timeline, deliverables and reporting

The ideal candidate will also have the following qualities:
• detail-oriented
• ability to work with a variety of personalities and skill sets
• multi-tasking wizardry
• ability to put in place well-structured and proven project management systems
• independent thinker and worker
• innovative and flexible problem-solver
• experience with game design or game play

Sense of humor a plus!

This is a part-time position (60% FTE). Annual compensation range is $40k - $45k plus benefits, with room for growth into fulltime work. This position is funded for 12 months through a dedicated grant. We anticipate receiving additional funding for this position beyond the initial 12 months.
